These little projects are great for my practicing of holding my hook and yarn to develop my tension. I think I may be holding it too tight though. But still it almost looks like the photo for the pattern. ;)

Daughters First Quilt

Posted by Angela B. at 9:44 AM 0 comments

My daughter is in her last year of high school. She is taking a class called Textiles. In her class she has made some of the cutest little things. I am so impressed with how much she has learned about sewing! I am telling you she can teach me a few things! This is the Quilt she made in class. It turned out so BEAUTIFUL! I am so proud of her! When we bought the matierial I was apprehensive that she would be able to work with it, but she showed me!

Mystery Crochet A Long Finished!

Posted by Angela B. at 3:41 PM 0 comments

I finished my Medium Mystery Crochet Along this last summer but I have been so busy that I hadn't uploaded the finished blanket. Mystery Crochet Along patterns were posted on a Facebook group I am a part of. This is my second project with them. So far there have been 3 projects as far as I know. This Afghan, It is a little off I had to make 2 extra squares so I'm not sure where I messed up. It was my first ever Afghan made with squares. It is more of a lap-ghan I think they call it. I'm short stuff so I just love how it turned out.!

Freedom isn't Free quilting Bee

Posted by Angela B. at 9:42 AM 0 comments

How many of you know Holly from AnySoldier.com? - Holly Hasper, her husband Andy and their new daughter. Amelia was born on 10-1-12 at 27 weeks gestation. She weighed 2 lbs 2 oz and was 13 inches. She is currently battling an intestinal infection and a heart defect common in micro preemies but over all is doing pretty good. When Mary Anne sent Deni the squares for the baby quilts a couple of years ago, she had some left over waiting for another military baby. She believes God wants her to make one for Amelia. I agree full heartedly.  Above is the quilt with one of the squares I had submitted for the quilt. Isn't it just precious! Along with the quilt I hope each of you reading this says a little prayer for Amelia's full recovery!

LEO Club Design

Posted by Angela B. at 7:30 AM 0 comments

We bought a 2013 Landmark Key Largo 5th Wheel and our friends Jerry & Susan Magill also have a Landmark. Between the four of us we came up with the Landmark Exclusive Owners club or LEO for short. :) I went home and designed this with my Brother Embroidery machine, and worked it up onto an old apron, hence the pre-staining. :)

Crochet Amigurumi Ghost

Posted by Angela B. at 4:00 PM 0 comments

I am in love with this little ghost. I thought I would try something easy to stuff for Halloween. And this was a great choice for me! I cannot stop making them. Everyone I make looks a little different. I am fine with that, but it also shows I need more practice at this crocheting thing. This pattern was found at Lion Brand Yarn and it was called Genie the Ghost

My first Stuffed toy. I thought a pumpkin should be easy enough. And for the most part it was very easy. I am delighted with how it turned out.

No Place like Gnome

Posted by Angela B. at 7:15 AM 0 comments

We have met some of the best people on our camping trips and one of the ways I met so many like minded camping peeps is that I joined Pop Up camping forums online. It was there I found people were meeting up at campgrounds from around the world. One of the best people we met at the MidCon Rallies in America are our beloved friends Rae & Fred from Ely, Minnesota. Rae is not only an avid camper, but she writes novels, and has a few articles in PopUp Times magazine, did I mention she can crochet? She made everyone at the rally a Traveling Gnome. I adore this guy and as you see he is letting us know that during the Obama era the gas prices were sky rocketing to nearly $5 a gallon. They do not make traveling come easy for us penny pinchers!

Happy Mothers Day to Me!

Posted by Angela B. at 10:15 AM 0 comments

Oh my word! Talk about a Mother's Day full of presents! I thought it was my birthday for a minute! Above is a photograph of all the gifts I received this year. My husband, Johnathan spoiled me this year with everything I need to start machinery embroidery projects, my daughter's gifts were also amazing she handmade all of her gifts for me! She made me a beautiful vase in Pottery class, a tissue paper rose for the vase, and while we were away on our camping trip she sneaked into my crafts and created me a handmade Mother's Day card! :D My son said he wanted to get me a 100 roses and a box of candy that he had heard about on the radio, but with his shifts he ended up getting me the adorable T-shirt that says It's All About Me, Deal With It! ...lol! It might have to go into a quilt or something since its a bit small for me! ;)
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Mother's Day! It feels like Christmas and I think I am ready to go play with my new toys!!

Oh Brother, I need more practice

Posted by Angela B. at 9:40 AM 0 comments

Oh Brother, as in my Brother SE400 Embroidery Machine. This is some of my scrap work on an old white apron..

And then I wanted to be a part of the Anysoldier.com Quilting Bee's. The Quilting Bee's make squares and they are sewn together making a quilt to donate to families of our military. This square is what I am working on for the latest Memorial Quilt.

I made it this far there's no stopping me now! I have done my first square over, with the right hook size. This project was labeled the Medium Mystery Crochet A Long! Yikes! I am not use to projects with so much to them! I am excited to see how my work turns out in the end! But for now this is as far as I have come along.

 I am making progress!

Crochet Shamrock Pin

Posted by Angela B. at 7:51 PM 0 comments

I had to make this pattern as soon as I seen it. My mother turned me onto the special Luck of the clover and shamrocks. She had several her mother had found placed in a special book. My mother could spot them so fast and when I was growing up I never could find one, but I tried you bet I tried hard! It wasn’t until my husband and I took up camping did I truly discover the joy of spotting those lucky 4 leaf clovers. Found 13 once, let me tell you it was definitely not lucky! Our house caught fire that summer while we were out traveling the country on our camping trip. That actually happens in June of this year. Since I am back posting this I already know that it happens at this point. But due to our love of the clover for generations I had to crochet quite a few of these to pass out to friends and family. I also kept finding clovers after our camp out and decided I would give them to any friends I met at the campgrounds for good luck. We ended up losing our camper due to financial hardships.. did I mention I have the worst of luck…lol!

Mystery Crochet A Long take 1

Posted by Angela B. at 3:47 PM 0 comments

Here is the first take on what seems to be a crochet square, well it is supposed to be square. I made it this far before deciding to purchase the yarn that was suggested for the pattern. I am not good with making things turn out square or rectangle for that matter...lol!  I thought I was doing so great until I finished off the last corner and it just didn't work out right... I stretched it around and played with it till it looked good for the picture.

Luck would be in my stars, because the pattern was altered, my new yarn arrived and I will have to start anew.

Crochet Wool Hat

Posted by Angela B. at 9:41 PM 0 comments

This hat looks fantastic if i say so myself. The issue is not with the look, but the size. You would have to have an oversized head for this one. I gave to my friend so she could wrap hair up and put it all in the hat, but even she said it was better used as a ate bed, her cates loved sleeping inside. So, for my first Newsboy style hat its not so bad.

Crochet Wool Hat

Posted by Angela B. at 12:49 PM 0 comments

My first ever crochet hat. It looked so cool in the photo and originally I was making it for a friend for her birthday. She likes hats, but after it was finished it was not the correct size needed. I am a beginner at this but I am learning that I should have used a larger hook than the pattern called for and maybe the gauge test isn't such a bad idea after all. I am stubborn, but thankful it turned out resembling a hat! :D

Crochet Center Heart Square

Posted by Angela B. at 9:26 PM 0 comments

I love anything with hearts. Mostly unique items with heart shapes like the plastic piece that ties the loaf of bread together sometimes is shaped like a heart, or a time there was a clearing in the sky through the gray clouds that was in the shape of a heart, or when I found a rock in the forest that was shaped like a heart.

Written By Ginger Badger from Heartmade Blessings

McDonald's Heart Shaped Chicken Nugget

Rock found in forest while camping

The rock is actually the second rock I found shaped like a heart during this trip. The first one I put back down on a trail for someone else to possibly find. :) When it happened again I had to keep the second rock.

Brother SE 400 Sewing & Embroidery

Posted by Angela B. at 9:46 AM 0 comments

I am so excited! I have been wanting an embroidery machine for quite some time and almost spent thousands on an industrial machine once upon a time, but the birdie on my shoulder stopped me since I knew nothing of machine embroidering. I know a little about hand  embroidery and cross stitch. When I didn't receive one of these machines for my 40th birthday last July and then not from Santa this year either, I decided to make an impulse buy on the HSN web site which I quickly cancelled when i discovered I could save over a 100 for the same machine with a different item number through Amazon.com and for the money I saved I can buy embroidery computer software and a beginners machine embroidery kit. I am so pumped!
The machine was delivered this past Wednesday and knowingly I should be using some stabilizer for the fabric I haven't been because I wanted to play with it so very badly. The machine came with some white thread so I attempted a washcloth, a pillowcase and yes I had to try a pair of hubby's underwear. That was just for fun! But do not attempt that without a stabilizer, take my warning serious the material was matted up in the machine... it was not good. I told my 19 year old son when he returns home from work beware of what garments of his I get a hold of. (giggles)

My only complaint would be that the beginners kit be included in the machine with a few samples of the stabilizer fabric as well as maybe a small project ideas guide would be nice. But that's okay I am lucky to have internet.

Here's a sample of the first shot at the pillow case

Test run with the beginners kit colors had a little bobbin tangling and through off the entire design of the butterfly. I didn't research how to apply stabilizer so I think I may be using it wrong as well.

Crochet Chicken Potholder

Posted by Angela B. at 7:42 PM 0 comments

This Potholder pattern I found in one of my mother’s stash of pamphlets that was passed down to me. I didn’t know when I was making this fun project that hot-pads should be made out of cotton yarn,  and never add a plastic eye. Do not use acrylic Red Heart yarn. Cute as it is, this will have to be a decorative practice piece for now. The pattern was written by Bobbie Frazier and was posted in the Leisure Arts #281, Crocheted Potholders.

Crochet Apple Potholder

Posted by Angela B. at 9:55 PM 0 comments

This pattern had me right from the start. What a perfect addition to a kitchen. It is supposed to be a hot pad but with a plastic googly eye for one, and for two it is Acrylic yarn. You never want to set anything hot on Acrylic yarn it will melt. I learned that all on my own from a garage sale handmade potholder I bought. I enjoyed making this so much I made several, but I had no idea the yarn had to be cotton so this is one of those items I cannot really give to anyone unless they are willing to use it as decoration and not for use.
