Diaper Trike

 

I have made diaper cakes before but I didn't want to give the same old diaper cake again to my nephews family.  They are having their second child and I gave them the diaper cake for the first born. A wonderful lady named Cindy, I met in chat at The Outlawz told me about Diaper Trikes. I looked up videos on Youtube and as soon as I seen them I knew this was what I had to make! Isn't it adorable!

Since the baby is arriving and we are going to have a BIG sister who will be turning 4 in February, I didn't want her to feel left out. I went to Kohl's and bought one of their animals and story book that all the proceeds go to a childrens organization and put together a big sister gift.

Crocheting with PipSqueak Yarn

 

Pipsqueak yarn that is. While on our two week Colorado camping vacation I had decided after about a week that I needed a hobby while the hubby fishes. If I have to sit next to the Rio Grande river while he's wading up and down stream fly fishing I can only take so many photos of the same surrounding, know what I mean? So, the first chance I was able to buy some yarn and supplies to make a hat or baby booties I bought them, it ended up being at Wal-mart in Alamosa, CO on our first trip home. We decided to go back and stay another week.  Then I bookmarked every page on my Ipad thinking that when I returned to camp I will have so many projects to try. Yeah right. What was I thinking? There is no Wi-Fi at 11,000 elevation in the Rio Grande National forest. So I was forced to use my new fuzzy yarn, a yarn I had never seen used by anyone. Oh its so soft and cuddly.  I was forced to try and make the blanket project located on the skein of yarn. I am fairly new at crocheting and boy it was a little tough trying to understand the codes without my beginners guide. I muddled through the project and decided as long as I do the same stitch, that is if I can locate the chain holes and stitches with this extremely hard yarn for a newbie to try and work with. Above photo is where I am at so far. Unfortunately I misread the label and didn't buy enough skeins and after stopping at four retailers near to home searching for the yarn I ended up having to order it from the manufacturer online. My daughter seen my work I had finished and demanded I give this blanket to her. I had to tell her that I couldn't because one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met in my life meets us in Colorado to camp and she crochets the cutest hats and hand sews vintage bonnets. She gave me an adorable hat I will have to photograph my daughter when she is wearing it, it looks so cute on her! After many hours of talking to one another I wanted to return the favor to her next year when I see her again and I want to have this baby blanket finished, although she is not a baby she will use it as a lap quilt and snuggle with it on those cold Colorado mountain days while we are at camp. As much as she enjoyed the feeling of the yarn I know she will love this gift! I was hoping to do some crochet projects with her but my yarn choice was just to difficult for me to work with. I think I am doing pretty good so far but not sure how square it will be.. :D

Frog Diaper Cake

 

One of my long time friends that I have known for over 25 years is having her second child. It's a boy! Her baby shower is this weekend. I had to find something to give her and why not make her a diaper cake? So while I was out school shopping with my daughter I found a lot of goodies to fill a diaper cake. Every time I make one of these I am so hard on myself about whether or not it will turn out as  a descent gift. I always seem to amaze myself at what a good job I have done. I really love how this one turned out! More pics will be posted in my diaper cake file that you can link to from the top of this blog.

Pink Elephant Diaper Cake

 

My 16 year old daughter helped me put together this diaper cake for one of her friends sisters whose all grown up now and having her first baby. It has a few more things to add in and some stuffing filler then I will wrap it up in cellophane and put a bow on it and call it finished!

Mini Crochet Christmas Stocking

 

Years ago somewhere around late 80's my Aunt Connie made me a few crochet items for Christmas. Ever since I received a mini stocking like these I wanted a set for my entire Christmas tree. I still don't have enough for an entire tree but  I still just love these stockings! I found the pattern and made some of my own and they are so adorable!! I used the I hook.

Blue Duck Diaper Cake

 

 This week has been a very busy week for me. This is the first full week of school for my kiddos and every day I have been working myself all the way till time to pick them up from school. Today's "work" was putting together this diaper cake for my nephew. His baby boy is due next month. I will attach my card into this somehow. I have a couple things to do to finish it up, and get it wrapped in cellophane.
